BC Targu Mures ble stiftet i 1993 som Municipal Basketball Club Targu Mures. Klubben spilte i de lavere divisjonene i rumensk basketball i mange år før de rykket opp til den øverste divisjonen, Liga Nationala, i 2013.
I 2017 oppnådde Targu Mures sitt første store gjennombrudd ved å vinne den rumenske cupen. Året etter fulgte de opp med å vinne både ligaen og cupen, og sikret dermed sin plass som et av topplagene i rumensk basketball.
I 2018 vant Targu Mures Balkan League, en internasjonal konkurranse for klubber fra Balkan-regionen. Denne seieren markerte klubbens største internasjonale suksess til dags dato.
